Sunny Days on More Screens: Sesame Street Joins Netflix, Stays Strong on PBS!

Get ready for even more sunny days! The AP Reports that the beloved children’s classic, “Sesame Street,” is expanding its neighborhood thanks to a new partnership with Netflix, while ensuring it remains a free and accessible staple on its long-time home, PBS.

In a joint announcement Monday, it was revealed that starting later this year, brand new episodes of the iconic show will premiere on Netflix, PBS, and the PBS Kids app on the very same day. This means families around the globe can enjoy the latest adventures with Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster on Netflix, while US audiences continue to have free access through their local PBS stations. Select classic episodes will also be available for worldwide streaming on Netflix.

This exciting move comes after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its deal for new episodes on HBO/Max. Sesame Workshop celebrated the new arrangement, stating, “This unique public-private partnership will enable us to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world… while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access.”

Fans can also look forward to updates in Season 56, with longer, character-focused stories, a refreshed look, and even more exploration of the famous 123 Sesame Street brownstone. It’s a bright new chapter for a show that has enriched children’s lives for over 50 years!
